Ariha Pangambam has put her name in the history books as the first Indian to take home a senior women’s gold at the Asian Aerobic Gymnastics Championships. It is a new milestone for Indian gymnastics and a story of personal turnaround for the 22-year-old from Manipur.

From Fourth Place to a Historic Gold at the Asian Championships

The young gymnast made her mark at the 10th edition of the continental championships in Tagaytay City, Philippines, which ran from August 4 to 7, 2026. With a winning tally of 19.100 points, Pangambam secured the title in the individual event. In doing so, she has set a fresh benchmark for the country, earning India its inaugural medal in this category at the championships.

How Ariha’s 19.100-Point Routine Secured the Title

What made Pangambam’s routine stand out was how she handled the three judging components: 8.650 for artistry, 7.600 in execution and 2.850 for difficulty. Aerobic gymnastics is not simply a matter of fast-paced movement; it requires an athlete to execute demanding choreography with explosive strength and coordination, leaving little margin for error. Pangambam showed she could master that balance and put the rest of the field in her wake.

She has been working hard to get there. Her training regimen has been said to run some six hours a day, focused on upping her scores in all areas. The results are plain to see. Compare her latest 19.100-point showing with the 18.450 she put down to win gold at the 2025 National Games in Uttarakhand and the progress is clear.

Six Hours of Training Turned a Setback into a Breakthrough

This gold is also a testament to how Pangambam has channeled past disappointment. A fourth-place finish at the last Asian Championships could have been dispiriting, but she let it drive her to be better for the next time around.

A Landmark Achievement for Manipur and Indian Gymnastics

Her success will be well received in Manipur, a state with a tradition of turning out fine athletes in everything from boxing to football and martial arts. The Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand Singh and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla were among those to offer their congratulations, as did sports federations throughout India.

Ariha Pangambam Puts India on Asia’s Aerobic Gymnastics Map

Pangambam’s performance is significant for what it says about the potential of aerobic gymnastics in India, a discipline that does not get the same attention as artistic gymnastics. At 22 she has already established a record for future gymnasts to aspire to and put India on the map in Asia. For now, her 19.100-point gold is a defining moment in the country’s journey in the sport.
