These days one will not find a single blueprint for a technology career. A case in point is the trajectory of Aishwarya Srinivasan, whose story shows what can be achieved when you pair technical know-how with an openness to change and a desire to put yourself out there.
Her resume has the hallmarks of a conventional start. After VIT and Columbia University she made her way to IBM and Google. Yet Srinivasan did not confine herself to a single job description. Over time she branched out into public speaking, startup advising, investing and content creation, culminating in the co-founding of The Gen Academy, an AI education venture meant to open up career paths in the field.
For those making their way in AI, her example is instructive: there is no need for your technical work to be boxed in by a title.
From VIT to Columbia: Where Aishwarya’s AI Journey Began
It was at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) that Srinivasan’s focus on data science and machine learning crystallised. She put in about 10 or 11 internships during her computer science studies at places like Microsoft, TCS and EY, and co-wrote several papers.
A move to the US for a Master’s in Data Science at Columbia followed. As a research assistant she was involved with open-source work on scikit-learn and put together applied models for everything from healthcare to stock trading.
Out of college she was hired as a full-time data scientist at IBM, where she saw the entire AI lifecycle from the data engineering side to UI integration.
From Building AI Models to Solving Real Business Problems
At IBM she advanced to AI & ML Innovation Leader, collaborating with sales and product to put together prototypes for enterprise clients. It was a role that forced her to consider how AI delivers real business value, not just how to build a model.
She then went to Google Cloud to help enterprises scale their adoption of machine learning. Some might have viewed reaching Google as the end of the line; for Srinivasan it was merely another step in the process.

How Sharing Her AI Journey Built a Powerful Personal Brand
Srinivasan was also cultivating an audience on the side. On LinkedIn she would post about her experiences in data science and career development. “I didn’t set out to be a creator,” she has noted, but wanted to make her path visible for women in tech who needed representation.
The effort paid off. What started as a way to connect with people has become one of the more prominent personal brands in AI on the platform, earning her a spot as a Top Voice in the category. That kind of visibility has its own currency; it has brought in speaking and advisory offers without the need for a formal application.
From Big Tech to Building Her Own AI Education Venture
She has since served as a Senior AI Advisor for Microsoft for Startups, guiding founders on the use of OpenAI and Microsoft platforms, while also putting capital into companies and teaching AI engineering to thousands.
The natural progression was to become an entrepreneur. With The Gen Academy she has gone from constructing AI solutions within the walls of big tech to fostering an ecosystem for talent and education.
Why Aishwarya Srinivasan’s Career Path Matters
What makes her path notable is that it defies the old formula of top school to Big Tech to a steady climb up the ladder. Srinivasan has used LinkedIn to document her learning and forge relationships at scale, turning it into a strategic asset.
There is a lesson here for anyone in the industry. An immigrant woman in AI, she has been deliberate about showing others a way in. But the broader point is that a modern career can be multifaceted. You can be a technologist and a mentor, a founder and a creator. One project can yield knowledge, which builds an audience, and from that trust comes the basis for something far larger.
