How Jayati Goel Built HeyTeen, India’s First Teen Skincare Brand, From a Tier 3 City

India’s skincare industry has exploded over the last few years, but one audience has quietly remained overlooked for far too long – teenagers. While shelves are filled with products for babies or adults, very few brands truly understand the needs of young, sensitive teenage skin.

That gap is exactly what led Jayati Goel to create HeyTeen, a skincare brand designed specifically for teenagers. What makes the story even more remarkable is that the brand was not built out of a metro city startup ecosystem, but from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

In just six months, HeyTeen grew from a personal parenting concern into what is now being recognised as India’s first dedicated teen skincare brand.

A Personal Problem Sparked the Idea Behind HeyTeen

The journey started with something deeply personal.

Jayati Goel struggled to find safe, age-appropriate skincare products for her teenage son. Most products available in the market were either designed for toddlers or formulated for adults using ingredients that felt too harsh for young skin.

But Jayati approached the problem with more than just a mother’s concern.

She is also a certified cosmetic formulator with her own manufacturing facility, giving her firsthand knowledge of skincare science, formulations, and product safety. As she explored the market further, she realised that millions of Indian teenagers were using products never truly designed for their age group.

That realisation eventually became the foundation of HeyTeen.

Launched in October 2025, the brand focuses on creating skincare that is effective yet gentle enough for teenage skin – a balance that has long been missing in India’s beauty market.

    Skincare Designed Specifically for Teenagers

Unlike many brands that simply market adult skincare to younger consumers, HeyTeen was built around the actual routines and concerns teenagers experience every day.

The brand combines playful, relatable branding with formulations specifically created for young skin. Its product range includes everyday essentials such as Hydra Glow Face Wash, Facial Scrubs, Lip Balms, Blush Me Up, Cotton Candy Body Lotion, and Pimple Patches.

The idea is simple: make skincare approachable, safe, and easy for teenagers to use consistently.

For parents, the appeal lies in reassurance. For teenagers, the products feel fun, modern, and age-appropriate without being intimidating or overly clinical.

That balance has helped HeyTeen quickly stand out in an increasingly crowded skincare market.

Rapid Growth in Just Six Months

HeyTeen’s early growth has been striking.

The brand launched on Amazon in October 2025 with only a handful of products. Within just two months, it reportedly crossed ₹3 lakh in sales through Amazon alone.

In only six months, the company’s total revenue crossed ₹25 lakh – a major milestone for a young D2C skincare startup operating from a Tier 3 city.

The traction soon caught the attention of larger e-commerce platforms as well.

Myntra and FirstCry approached the brand to onboard its products, helping HeyTeen expand its reach beyond Amazon and into mainstream beauty and parenting audiences across India.

Today, the products are available through the brand’s website as well as platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, and FirstCry.

    The Advantage of In-House Manufacturing

One of HeyTeen’s strongest competitive advantages is its in-house manufacturing setup in Himachal Pradesh.

In a beauty industry where many startups outsource production or rely on ready-made formulations, HeyTeen operates differently. Because Jayati herself is a certified cosmetic formulator, she oversees the product development and quality process directly.

This gives the brand tighter control over formulations, ingredient quality, pricing, and product improvements.

It also allows faster experimentation and quicker responses to customer feedback – something many early-stage beauty brands struggle to achieve when relying on third-party manufacturing partners.

That operational flexibility has become a significant strength for the company during its early growth phase.

More Than Just a Beauty Brand

For Jayati Goel, HeyTeen is not just about skincare products.

Her larger vision is to build a trusted platform around teenage self-care, confidence, and wellness. The company also plans to create educational content because many teenagers  and even parents  still lack proper awareness around age-appropriate skincare routines.

In the short term, the focus remains on expanding the product range and reaching more Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where awareness around teenage skincare is growing rapidly.

    Why HeyTeen’s Story Matters

HeyTeen’s success reflects a much larger shift happening in India’s startup ecosystem.

It proves that meaningful innovation is no longer limited to big cities or heavily funded founders. Sometimes, the strongest businesses emerge from solving deeply personal, real-world problems that millions of people quietly face every day.

Jayati Goel’s journey from concerned mother to founder of India’s first dedicated teen skincare brand also highlights the growing power of founder-led, trust-driven consumer brands.

In a market crowded with generic beauty products, HeyTeen has carved out its identity by focusing on an audience that was long ignored – Indian teenagers looking for skincare that finally feels made for them.
